Pity I still can't have the book and give it a proper name. And a pity it had to wash up where it doesn't belong.

Weeks later, after seeing my share of these things, I looked in the right book.
1] They are purple olive snails.
2] The wonderful news is that they do belong in the wet sand, tunneling along and scavenging for scavengeable stuff.
