Scanning in old negatives brings dust. With some time you
can remove any amounts of dust from a nasty image - it just
takes time.
You can try out the filter that claims to do it for you, but
in all but extreme cases it will simply lower the quality of
your entire image.
This is worth a try at first... play with the different sliders
to try to get the scratches out but keep the image... I have only
used this tool a few times... usually I end up removing the dust
by hand.
Another tool is more accurate. It is called the Rubber Stamp.
Basically you turn on the tool and choose a brush size. Then hold
down the ATL key and click on the screen. Release the ALT key and
paint. It will act like a little copy machine that samples from the
first target and pastes it where you are painting. The space between
the two points stays the same. Both points will be visible on the
screen - play with it to get a hang of this tool. Also note that sometime
you need to release the mouse to repaint the screen before continuing.
