sculpin

My guess is sculpin of some sort. I've seen little ones often enough in tide pools where they will hide under rocks if you get close. This one was maybe 12 cm. in a puddle.

The wind was fierce, and the camera prefers to focus on the surface of water, so I did not expect anything decent.

Coming back through, the water had drained out, so it was just waiting out the afternoon in the sand. I felt sure a shorebird would notice it before the tide rose again, so I picked it up and set it down in the water to shiver away.
